Ace of Swords

When the Ace of Swords comes up in a reading, I can feel it cut through the bullshit. *Whoooosh!* The Ace of Swords is a decision made. The Ace of Swords is the power of the mind. The Ace of Swords is the double sided blade of truth.

Aces are beginnings by nature of being the first in a series of Ace to Ten. Swords represent the element of air and the human realm of thoughts. The combination of “beginning” and “thought” can signify a lot of things: a moment of clarity, a brand new idea, a new perspective, or a choice that is finally made.

With the Ace of Swords, there is an emphasis on the intellect and how we use it to navigate our lives. The concept of the sword holds powerful symbolisms. What can you do with a sword? Slash, stab, puncture, slice, penetrate, and impale. Such actions are forceful and violent which are potentials that the Ace (and the whole suit of swords) holds within. Actions or reactions brought on by anger or defensiveness when in conflict.

The sword can also be used directionally, to point upright in victory or to be stuck into the ground in a gesture of defeat or thrown on the ground in surrender. The sword also has the power to bestow honour, as when a warrior becomes knighted in ceremony. Our thoughts are similarly tools or weapons that we must learn to wield with care, for they can create and destroy alike.

Pointing straight up for true perception, the sword pierces the crown of the material world. Wisdom leads us beyond illusions and limitations to the spiritual truth contained within life.

The Ace of Swords pendant design takes flight through the air with the wings on the hand guard. The mountains of abstract thought can be seen in the distance and the clouds of illusion hang in the sky. The sigil on the reverse of the pendant is a combination of the elemental symbol for air (the upright triangle with a single line through) and the astrological glyphs for the modern & traditional rulers of the zodiac sign of Aquarius. Uranus is the modern planetary ruler and Saturn is the traditional planetary ruler of this fixed air sign and the two have glyphs have been combined to represent the sword’s guard, grip, and pommel.
