How to “charge” your pendant
There are a few different takes on how to make a sigil in the first place and many, many opinions about how to charge them. Some of them involve sex and blood! Now, I understand that this might freak you right out. Maybe you just wanted some jewellery and you are not interested in magic, let alone sex and blood magic, but I will say that there is nothing to lose by spending a few moments in quiet contemplation of what it is you truly desire, no sex and blood required.
In our modern culture of consumption it is easy to lose track of what we deeply want. We want things! New things! Shiny things! More things all the time! And I suppose I would like to subvert this. Yes, you have purchased a shiny new thing from me and yes it may have been on an impulse or against your better judgement but I made this thing for you as a magical object and my intention will carry to you whether you acknowledge it or not.
The pendant you will receive is a result of an act of magical art-making. Jewellery is a vessel for meaning and that is why I was attracted to creating it in the first place. The most loved items of jewellery will always have a story. “It belonged to my grandmother.” “It was the first thing I bought myself when I got a well paying job.” “It was made from my father’s wedding band.” “It is a piece I found in an antique market on a trip with my best friend.” “It was given to me by my Aunt on my 16th birthday.” “My uncle made it.” “I bought it as a gift for someone else but I loved it so much I kept it for myself!” So many stories.
We are all connected by our stories and jewellery is a way of sharing those stories. We wear it to show that we are married or betrothed. We wear it to accentuate our personal style. We wear it to indicate our religious affiliation. We wear jewellery for as many reasons as there are stories.
What is your story? Why did you click the “buy now” button? Did the Ace of Cups pendant promise you a way of reminding yourself that you are loved deeply? Did the Moon pendant make you feel seen and accepted as a changeable or moody person?
Think of why you were drawn to your new pendant and what you hope to get from your relationship with this new thing you will wear so close to your heart. What if we did this with every new thing we bought and brought into our lives? Would it change the way we experience the objects in our homes and lives?
Suggestions for charging your sigil pendant
Firstly, I am not nor do I claim to be an expert in sigil making & charging. I am however a person who is interested in being curious on purpose and in the pursuit of joy, play, and meaning. Take my suggestions and do with them what you may. Be careful when using fire or sharp objects. Most importantly, enjoy being in the moment. There is no right or wrong.
I suggest a moment of meditation where you sit in peace and hold your pendant in hand. Gaze at the sigil and think of what it is that you wish to feel while you wear your pendant. Do you wish to be more imaginative, creative, confident, sexy, communicative, powerful, humble, vulnerable, or intuitive? What do you wish to attract? When you have zeroed in on what it is that you want your sigil to represent, write it as a simple affirmative statement. “I am confident.” “I am strong.” “I create the life I desire to live. I attract love.” “I make more than enough money to support my family.”
Also, we must remember that it isn’t simply enough to want something, we must actively pursue what it is that we want in ethical ways. The sigil is merely a starting point. You should not include a wish for another person to behave a certain way. Consent is absolutely necessary. For this reason, it is best to focus on yourself and what it is that you can control with a sprinkle of yearning and magical thinking.
Perhaps your desire is to become more intuitive. You gaze at the High Priestess sigil. You take a ball-point pen and draw the sigil on the palm of your left hand. Place your palm over your heart while you state your affirmative phrase. Let the activities of the day rub the sigil off or wash your hands intentionally to remove the sigil.
Perhaps you wish to let go of a bad experience. You focus on the Death sigil. You draw the sigil on a small stone with a marker and bury the stone at the foot of your favourite tree.
You wish to travel and adventure more. You stare at the Ace of Wands sigil. You draw the sigil on the bottom of your right sneaker and go for a long walk to a new neighbourhood.
You want to find a new job. You peer at the Ace of Pentacles. You draw the sigil very lightly in pencil on the back of your résumés and go walk through downtown. Or you create a digital version of the sigil in white and add it to your résumé so that it is not visible but still present and then send the file to your desired employer.
You want to find like-minded friends. You look at the Ace of Cups sigil. You draw the sigil on a bay leaf from your spice rack and light the leaf on fire (outdoors or in a well ventilated area) and place it in a metal or ceramic dish until it turns to ash. Sprinkle the ash in a flower bed.
Use your imagination! Combine and edit as you wish. Please be careful if you are using candles or fire in anyway or using sharp objects to carve sigils into wood or wax.
More suggestions
Take a votive candle and a sharpened pencil, pointy object or pen and carve or draw the sigil into the candle. Burn the candle while you meditate on your intention.
Draw the sigil or the phrase of your intention onto a bay leaf or slip of paper. Take it outside and set it alight (careful not to burn yourself) let it burn away on the ground or on a fire safe-surface like a brick or metal surface.
If you live near the ocean or another body of water you could go to the beach and draw the sigil in the sand. As the water washes the image away, focus on your intention.
Draw the sigil onto your wrist with an essential oil like lavender or your favourite perfume. Through the day you will smell it wafting through the air and it will remind you of your intention as it slowly fades away.
Light a stick of incense and draw the sigil in the air with the smoking end of the incense while thinking of your desire.
Bake a loaf of bread or a pie and score the sigil into the top of the pastry before baking. Eat it with your intention in mind.
Write your intention onto a smooth stone and bury it in the garden or near your favourite plant/tree.
Make a special trip to a place where you can see the stars, even just a park on a clear night when the moon is new or close to new. Wear your pendant while you gaze at the stars and think of your wish.
Pick or purchase a bouquet of flowers. Draw the sigil on a piece of tissue or thin paper that will dissolve in water and drop it in the bottom of a vase. Fill the vase with water and arrange the flowers as you think of your intention.
Draw the sigil on a sticky note or slip of paper while you think of your dearest wish. Place the note behind a piece of art on your walls or a curtain or piece of furniture that you rarely move. Forget about it and find it again when you move the furniture in months or years.
Meditate on your intention with the sigil on the night of the full moon. Leave the pendant in a spot that will be lit by the moonlight as you sleep.
Be safe & have fun, my friends.
